Queensland Late Model Racers make a wish for Zoe Girdlestone

Zoe Girdlestone passed away in 2009. She was only 19 at the time. Zoe was born with cystic fibrosis, a genetic disease, with no cure.

Despite the day to day battle of living with cystic fibrosis, Zoe remained as positive as she could, and was a shining beacon to her family.

Zoe became a big fan of the music of Jim Morrison of the Doors, after listening to a tape played regularly by her father, Late Model Racing Queensland founding member Nick Girdlestone.

The music of Jim Morrison helped lift her spirits as she battled the tough times.

In 2006, as part of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, that grants wishes for terminally ill children, Zoe was whisked off to Paris to visit the grave of the legendary rock star. Her family accompanied her on the journey and the good memories of that trip will stay with them forever.

The Make-A-Wish trip included return air fares to Paris for the Girdlestone family, a week's accommodation, city tour bus tickets, Euro Disney passes, spending money, and dinner and show tickets for Moulin Rouge. Zoe celebrated her 16th Birthday at the Moulin Rouge show, and with the legal drinking age in France being 16, enjoyed a glass of champagne.

The Girdlestone family has never forgotten the kindness shown by the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and the joy it brought to Zoe.

As it's been almost two years since Zoe passed away, the Girdlestone family believes  the time is right to once again publicly share the memories of her life, and to raise awareness of the Make-A-Wish Foundation and its efforts.

The members of Late Model Racing Queensland have thrown their support behind the Girdlestone family, and are pleased to announce that the inaugural "Zoe Girdlestone Memorial" will be contested at SuperCheap Auto Archerfield Speedway on Saturday November 12.

As a mark of respect to Zoe, and the high esteem in which the Girdlestone family is held, pole position in the "Zoe Girdlestone Memorial" Feature will be left vacant.

Several fund raising activities will be undertaken on the evening, with all donations going directly to the Make-A-Wish Foundation in order to grant more wishes for sick children.

A full field of Queenslands finest Late Model Racers, with a sprinkling of interstate visitors, is expected to take the green flag in the "Zoe Girdlestone Memorial".

Late Model Racing Queensland members, like the Girdlestone family, are keeping Zoe close in their heart, and thoughts, and ask you to make a donation to the "Make-A-Wish Foundation" at: www.makeawish.org.au
