The Beautiful Burleigh Heads

The Beautiful Burleigh Heads

Whether you’re a local or a visitor to the Gold Coast, one of the top destinations to visit is the beautiful Burleigh Heads.

Not only known for its fabulous beaches, Burleigh has something for everyone.

With its bustling foodie scene, local boutiques, great parks and picnic spots you could make a day of it and entertain the whole family.

Burleigh Point is a popular spot to sit and watch the surfers doing their thing and a stones throw from Burleigh Heads National Park.

Burleigh Headland has 2 graded walking tracks ‘Ocean View’ and ‘Rainforest’.

The Ocean View* track snakes around the headland taking in the coastal views around to Tallebudgera Creek and Echo Beach.

The Rainforest track climbs to the summit, 88m above sea level.

The formation of Burleigh Headland began between 23-25 Million years ago when the ‘Tweed Volcano’ was active, with molten basalt lava flowing all the way down to the valleys. The volcano was originally over 100 kilometres in diameter and nearly twice the height of Mount Warning today.

You can still see massive basalt rocks along the Ocean View track along with a stunning view of the ocean that’s not to be missed.

The Ocean Walk is the more leisurely of the two, the Rainforest is sure to get your heart rate up that little bit more as you climb higher up the mountain.

Once you’ve worked up a sweat you can go for a dip in the calm waters of Echo Beach before you make your way back.

Not only is it a great way to cool off but the water is lovely and clear and you can often see little fish swimming amongst you.

After all that swimming no doubt you will have worked up an appetite, thankfully there is no shortage of amazing options for places to eat. A few personal favourites are Justin’s Lane, California Tacos, Bin 12, Harry’s Steak Bistro & Bar and Social Brew.

If you’re travelling on a budget why not pack a picnic and set up shop along Burleigh Hill, there are also public BBQs available for use.

Definitely a place to visit when you are on the Gold Coast, I would go so far as to say it is not to be missed…you won’t regret it.

Also if you are a fellow coffee lover check out the following places for a great cup of joe – Social Brew, Canteen, Quest Coffee Roasters, Ruby + Green and The Nook. All of which I can personally attest do a great coffee.

Don’t forget to bring the camera, if any view was Instagram worthy it is the view from Burleigh Point looking over the spectacular coastline.

Happy Travelling!
