From homelessness to CEO: a profile of a CEO Sleepout participant
A formerly homeless man who became CEO is now giving back to help the homeless.Gary Poole, who owns an award-winning accommodation, The Escarpment Retreat and Day Spa on Mt Tamborine in Queensland's Gold Coast hinterland, is one of the many CEOs participating in St Vincent de Paul's CEO Sleepout in Brisbane on the 20th June. The CEO Sleepout campaign was officially launched in early April and it aims to combat homelessness by asking CEOs across Australia to sleep rough and raise money for the cause.Gary might be one of the few, if not the only CEO there who knows firsthand about homelessness: he was homeless from the age of 14 years old. A Baby Dolphin for Sea World!
Sea World is celebrating the arrival of the newest member of the Sea World family – a beautiful female baby dolphin, weighing 15 kilograms and measuring 95cm in length. The calf’s proud parents are mum Sunnie and dad Kiama, who are both first time parents at ten years of age. The yet to be named calf is doing very well, and has been observed swimming strongly and suckling milk from its mother. Geelong Gathering adds Scottish concert in 2013
Geelong’s new-look Highland Gathering will add a major Scottish folk music concert to its growing list of attractions when it moves to Deakin University’s Waurn Ponds campus, on the first weekend in March next year. The concert will be from 7.30pm at the KD Stewart Centre, at Deakin and cost will be $25 for adults and $15 for those 15 years and younger, plus booking fees. The Gathering committee has incorporated the highly successful Concert for the Clans, held the last two years at the Potato Shed, Drysdale, under its umbrella and plans to make it a permanent feature in future years.
