Ayers Rock is a fascinating landmark that is located in the Northern Territory. Ayers Rock is a massive 348 metres high and has a circumference of 9.4 kilometres. The colour of Uluru is a vibrant orange that glows at sunrise and sunset. It is a popular tourist attraction and once you are there you will know why.

Ayers Rock is a coarse grained type of sandstone that was first sighted in 1873 by William Gosse. It was named after Sir Henry Ayers but it is also known by its Aboriginal name – Uluru. Ayers Rock is located in the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park and there is a National Park Fee of $25 which is valid for three consecutive days.

Guided walks around the base of Ayers Rock is a popular activity and for those who are fit then climbing the rock is a rewarding experience. Because of Uluru’s spiritual significance to the Aṉangu people they ask that visitors respect their law and culture by not climbing however the choice is yours. If you are considering climbing Ayers Rock it is recommended to drink plenty of water during the hour climb.
